About VGI

Our story

Shaul Sela was a farmer almost from the day he was born, a member of Kibbutz Mishmar Hasharon and a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot.
In 1970, he initiated and established Moshav Sadot, the first communal settlement in the Sinai Desert. He intended to grow flowers and vegetables for export by using drip irrigation to provide the plants with nutrients.
Sela researched a number of soluble substances that could be used to feed plants through drippers. He was soon successful, and a green oasis appeared in the arid landscape. Tourists and agricultural experts came from all over the world to see the “Israeli wonder.”

Improved crops and quality produce

Sela took on the task and in the mid-1980s developed the KF-10 product. Important bodies recognized the product’s effectiveness in improving crops, and soon large agricultural companies began using the product. Thus, VGI was founded. VGI’s products are tailored to the growing trend of environmentally safe agriculture. They help maintain ecological agriculture and contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in agricultural production.
Shaul Sela’s creative thinking and ability to find order in the randomness of nature ignited the imagination of Donald J. Goldberg of California, a world-renowned expert in viticulture. Goldberg joined Sela and the road to success was swift. The best growers in the world use the unique preparation developed by VGI and the scientific feeding methods that Goldberg and Sela have developed year after year.
VGI currently works to distribute products, develop additional innovative products, and implement unique feeding programs. Farmers who incorporate the company’s products into various crops benefit from improved crops and quality produce.

Chemical-free alternatives

However, knowing the drawbacks of petrochemical fertilizers, Sela began to look for chemical-free alternatives. He dreamed of environmentally friendly, non-toxic agriculture.
The natural preparations he wanted to develop had to meet difficult requirements:
Rapid solubility, which will allow for effective and easy application through irrigation systems. The preparations should help develop a strong and branched root system, to support the plant’s natural ability to absorb nutrients from the soil. The preparations should nourish and encourage the development of beneficial microbes, bacteria and enzymes in the soil. The preparations should support important metabolic processes in the plant.

Vision and Mission

The company was founded in 1989 by the late Shaul Sela – a farmer, researcher and inventor. Sela sought to find solutions from natural sources for improved crop nutrition. The company is engaged in the development and production of agricultural nutrients based on natural ingredients.
