Biostimulants refer to various groups of natural substances known for their ability, in relatively small quantities, to enhance, boost, and accelerate natural metabolic processes in the soil and plant tissues. Biostimulants include substances from organic sources—plant or animal—various minerals, bacteria, and fungi. In modern agriculture, the use of these materials is increasingly common, to improve soil fertility, enhance mineral uptake, and protect against stress conditions.
The mechanisms of action of VGI products are very broad and are not specific to any particular plant species or variety. Instead, they act on all higher plants—those with root systems performing photosynthesis. Therefore, the products are suitable for all plants in all growing systems. VGI offers several product lines—plant and seaweed extracts, amino acids and microelements, and auxiliary formulations. VGI is one of the pioneers in developing and producing biostimulants, in Israel and globally, and was among the first to create formulations composed of diverse ingredients. All of the company’s products were developed and are manufactured in Israel. The uniqueness of VGI products lies in the variety of their components and the proprietary technology used to extract active ingredients, which is exclusive to VGI. These features give the products a wide range of action, making them effective for all plant types under various environmental and growing conditions.
Consistent and proper use of VGI products constitutes a working method aligned with the principles of regenerative agriculture: the products are derived entirely from natural raw materials. Their mode of action supports life and renewal—enhancing and reinforcing natural processes occurring in the plant and its surroundings, creating optimal conditions for beneficial microorganisms in the growth environment. Regular use has proven effective in increasing yields, accelerating carbon sequestration by plants, and storing it in the soil. The extraction processes do not generate waste and are not hazardous to humans or animals. The KF 10, 20, and 30 products have received organic farming approval from the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and are authorized for use in certified organic farms.
Chemical fertilizers are, by definition, minerals added to the soil to meet plant nutrition needs, supplying essential minerals for tissue renewal, growth, and fruiting. They usually contain narrow and specific mineral components. In contrast, VGI products are made from a wide variety of natural and organic ingredients, structured in diverse organic compounds such as sterols, tannins, anthocyanins, auxins, and more. These compounds influence the regulation of plant metabolic processes. Proper application of these compounds enhances vital plant functions, improves mineral uptake, and increases energy retention during photosynthesis, resulting in more vigorous and productive plants.
Organic fertilizers mainly originate from animal waste and food industry byproducts. They are organic materials rich in essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These nutrients are typically bound in organic compounds and must be partially or fully decomposed to become available to plants. VGI products do not supply minerals directly but support and enhance life processes in the plant and soil. Combining VGI products with organic fertilizers facilitates their breakdown and improves the availability of minerals to the plant.
Humic substances are stable organic compounds naturally formed in soil due to enzymatic and fungal activity. They have high water and mineral retention capacity, and their presence improves soil structure and nutrient availability. Humic acid molecules are larger than fulvic acid molecules, making fulvic acid more effective in transporting minerals into plant tissues. Commercial products of humic and fulvic acids are derived from carbon-rich minerals and plants—humic acid is extracted using alkaline solvents, and fulvic acid using acidic solvents.
Humic substances improve soil structure and enhance its ability to retain and deliver nutrients to plants. KF products do not contain humic acids but rather plant-derived organic compounds. These compounds also improve soil structure and nutrient availability, while offering additional benefits by strengthening and enhancing the plant’s overall metabolic processes.
KF products promote the development of an extensive and vital root system, influence the structure of plant cell walls, and regulate stomatal activity in leaves. This improves the plant’s ability to absorb and transport water effectively under harsh conditions such as heat, drought, and high soil salinity.
The KF product family includes several formulations. The KF 10–20–30 series shares the same raw material base, with differences in concentration. This was designed to match each formulation to its market segment: KF 20 – concentrate mainly for export; KF 10 – suitable for agriculture at a rate of 1 liter per dunam per month; KF 30 – tailored for home gardening, at 1 liter per 250 m² per month.
KF Serfico is a formulation combining a specific type of seaweed with a particular plant extract also found in KF 10/20/30. Its uniqueness lies in its focused action on improving rooting and regrowth.
KF Amino combines plant extract with a protein concentrate rich in diverse amino acids. It provides specific benefits to plants under heat and drought stress by enhancing sugar and energy accumulation. This leads to improved fruit coloration, mineral content, and overall quality.
Fruit yield can be improved by increasing the number of fruits per area and/or enlarging individual fruits. Vegetable yield increases through accelerated growth and increased cell numbers. Applying a biostimulant at the beginning of the growth or fruit-setting phase enhances these processes, as the number of cells is determined early in the organ’s development. Applying biostimulants post-fruit set improves water and nutrient uptake, helping the plant retain more fruits and reduce natural thinning.
Applying KF to the root zone promotes root vitality through constant generation of new, active rootlets, which absorb water and minerals. This creates a natural “bypass” around the damage caused by pests and fungi. Moreover, some product ingredients are known to repel certain soil pests. As plant vitality is maintained over time, its susceptibility to harmful organisms is reduced.
